Managing Your Integration API Keys (for Channel Partners)

Create, revoke and rotate your Wheelhouse integration API keys yourself.

Written by Ryo

If you're an integration or channel partner, you can create, revoke and rotate (cycle) your own Wheelhouse integration API keys. You don't need to ask our team to issue or swap them. Anyone with admin access to your channel account can manage all of its keys.

Note: Rotating your keys is optional. Your existing keys keep working. Rotating them from time to time is good security practice, on whatever schedule suits you.

This only applies to integration keys. User API keys and RM API keys work the same as before. Using the RM API with your own Wheelhouse account? See Getting Started with the Wheelhouse RM API instead.

Watch the 3-minute walkthrough:

Open Your Keys Page

  1. Log in to Wheelhouse with your channel's admin account.

  2. Click your name in the upper right corner.

  3. Under Channel Admin, select Integration Key.

Your keys are split into Production and Testing, each with its own list. Each key shows its name, its last 4 characters, when it was last used, when it was created and its rate limit. Revoked or expired keys from the last 3 months are listed below; click Show to see them.

Create a Key

  1. Choose the environment: Production or Testing.

  2. Enter a name for the key. Names don't have to be unique, but a clear one helps, for example "Prod - server A - Oct 2026".

  3. Click Create Key.

  4. Click Show, then copy the key and store it somewhere secure, like a secrets manager. The key hides itself again after 5 seconds.

  5. Click Dismiss. After that, the full key can't be shown again.

Revoke a Key

  1. Find the key in the Production or Testing list.

  2. Click Revoke and confirm.

Revoking takes effect immediately and can't be undone. Anything still using that key stops working right away.

Rotate (Cycle) a Key Without Downtime

  1. Create the new key first.

  2. Update your code and systems to use the new key, and check that requests are working.

  3. Revoke the old key.

Rules and Limits

How it works

Active keys

Up to 3 per environment: 3 Production and 3 Testing. At the limit, revoke one before you create another.

Who can create

Any partner with a Wheelhouse channel account can create Testing keys. Production keys become available once Wheelhouse certifies your channel.

Who can manage

Anyone with admin access to the channel account. A channel can have more than one admin, and each one can manage all of its keys.

Seeing a key

The full key is shown once, when you create it. It hides again 5 seconds after you click Show, and is gone after you click Dismiss.

Revoking

Immediate and permanent. You can revoke any key, including your last one.

Expiry

Testing keys you create expire 3 months after you create them. Production keys follow the latest expiry of that environment's active keys, which is often no expiry. You can't set an expiry yourself.

Rate limit

Shown on each key, in requests per minute. A new key gets the lowest limit of that environment's active keys.

History

Keys revoked or expired in the last 3 months are listed.

Names

Keys can't be renamed. Keys without a name, including ones Wheelhouse issued before this feature, show as "Production key" or "Testing key".

Good Practices

  • Give each key a clear name that says where it's used.

  • Copy a new key into a secure place right away. It can't be shown again later.

  • If a key may have been exposed, revoke it right away.

Common Questions

Do I have to rotate my key?

No. Your existing keys keep working. Rotating from time to time is good practice.

I lost my key after creating it. Can I see it again?

No. Create a new key, update your systems, then revoke the one you lost.

Why can't I create another key?

You already have 3 active keys in that environment, and the page shows a notice saying so. Revoke one first.

Why can't I create a Production key?

Production keys are available once Wheelhouse certifies your channel. Contact your Wheelhouse partner contact.

My Testing key stopped working.

Testing keys you create expire 3 months after you create them. Create a new one.

Will revoking a key break my integration?

Yes, right away, for anything still using that key. Create and deploy the new key first.

Can I rename a key?

No. Choose a clear name when you create it.

Who on my team can manage keys?

Anyone with admin access to your channel account.
